What a wonderful experience it has been to work with Chris Gibson as a producer in his studio.

Gibby is producing Slushpuppy's next EP/demo (and hopefully our full length someday in the future). We are also doing all the recording at his studio, Upstart . . . I have to say Gibby more than makes up for the "small studio" aspect with super know-how, unbridled passion, unwavering determination, and an uncompromising work ethic. (Also, Gibby recently added Logic Audio to his studio which means he can accomplish a lot of what the more high-end studios can do now too).

Gibby is supremely talented as a producer. He has brilliant ideas about song arrangements and how to build and layer. He's super patient and knows how to draw the best performance possible out of the artist. He's very tactful and diplomatic and easily nips tensions and artists "idiosyncrasies" in the bud. Being a very well versed musician himself (guitar, drums, bass, vox, keys) he can communicate really well with each member of the band in terms that the particular musician will understand. This is a huge time saver.

As an engineer, Gibby, of course, knows his way around his studio with his eyes closed — never the "sit and wait" game while the engineer pushes a bunch of buttons trying to figure out what is "wrong." Also, he barely takes breaks! Fast, fast, fast!

What can you say about a Producer/Engineer that molds your sound?

Going into Upstart Studios, Downstage was hoping to come out with a demo that would represent our band to the fullest. Leaving Upstart Studios, Downstage had something much more then a demo and something more like a major label record. The advice that was given to us by Senior Producer Chris Gibson was right on point for what we were trying to accomplish.

When all was said and done we were left with one kick-ass EP. Since finishing the EP we've landed a management deal with Primed Entertainment Management and are currently being shopped to all the major labels.

If it weren't for the dedication and love for OUR music that Chris Gibson gave us then we would still be plucking our guitar strings in my basement. Not only does he love making music but he's funny as hell. Thanks Gibby!
